What is Introvision?

Introvision Coaching is an innovative method for overcoming inner conflicts, stress and anxiety that was originally developed at the University of Hamburg in the Department of Educational Psychology. Based on mindfulness techniques and scientific findings, Introvision offers an effective way to achieve lasting changes in thinking, feeling and acting.

The role of the amygdala and internal alarms

The amygdala, a part of the limbic system in the brain, plays a central role in the development of stress reactions. High levels of stress are generally experienced because internal alarms are triggered by actual or perceived external influences. Such internal alarms, which are triggered by the amygdala, can be activated by actual or perceived dangers and lead to stress-related behavior. The amygdala acts as a "safety center" that triggers the release of stress hormones such as adrenaline in order to enable the person to perform at a higher level through certain triggers. For this reason, the amygdala reacts many times faster to actual or perceived danger than the cerebrum, which is responsible for reasoning.

This explains why people often feel alarms anyway, even though they have understood from a rational point of view that they are actually superfluous, because they have understood where the alarm is coming from or because reason has made it clear to them that the stress-related behavior is counterproductive or harmful. Introvision is a process that deletes these alarms.

The connection between imperatives and inner conflicts

Imperatives are internal demands aimed at avoiding or achieving certain situations at all costs. These imperatives can lead to inner conflicts and influence a person's behavior and thought patterns. In everyday life, we encounter imperatives in the form of thoughts such as "I must be perfect", "I must not make any mistakes" or "I must always please everyone". These inner demands can lead to us putting ourselves under pressure and putting ourselves under certain constraints. For example, the imperative "I have to be perfect" can lead to us constantly putting ourselves under pressure not to make any mistakes, which can ultimately lead to anxiety and stress.

These imperatives are often deeply rooted and can come from various sources, such as previous experiences, upbringing or social expectations. They influence not only our behavior, but also our self-image and our relationships with other people. Introvision Coaching offers a way to resolve these inner conflicts and imperatives. It enables clients to become aware of their inner patterns and beliefs without being controlled by them. By learning to observe their thoughts and feelings without judging or condemning them, they gradually gain distance from their imperatives and discover new scope for action.

Through self-acceptance and mindfulness to a stress-free life

Acceptance through self-acceptance

Self-acceptance is central to Introvision coaching. Instead of fighting thoughts and feelings, it teaches you to accept them without judgment. This attitude enables self-observation and reflection without the pressure to change immediately. Paradoxically, this allows deeper immersion in inner processes and authentic change. In the space of openness and growth, clients experience a profound transformation based on the acceptance of their present state.

The importance of mindfulness

Mindfulness also plays a crucial role in Introvision coaching. Through the attitude of broad perception, in which thoughts, feelings and physical reactions are perceived without judgment and purely observationally, they are accepted. The impulse to react to the inner alarm is often very strong. It is therefore important to give the client tools to endure the alarm without reacting immediately, either by intervening or running away.

How does Introvision Coaching work?

Problem analysis and formulation of the imperative
In an introductory session, the source of the inner alarm is identified and an appropriate imperative is formulated that most effectively threatens the alarm.

Working with the inner alarm

The client is confronted with the alarm-triggering statement and the associated fears in an attitude of broad perception. Rising emotions are observed and acknowledged without intervening in what is happening.

Integration and practice

After the session, the client practices for a few minutes a day with the help of a recording in order to deepen mindfulness and the attitude of self-acceptance and to successfully dissolve the blockages and the feeling of stress in the long term.

Introvision Coaching: Sustainable solution for stress and inner conflicts

Introvision coaching has numerous areas of application and is particularly suitable for overcoming stress, anxiety and inner conflicts. It can also be used effectively for stage fright, fear of flying and lack of assertiveness, for example. The approach offers a holistic and effective method for resolving inner conflicts and coping with stress. Through the combination of mindfulness, self-acceptance and targeted exercises, lasting changes in thinking, feeling and acting are achieved. This opens up new scope for action and decision-making.
